Description
- Bill Brandt
- 'london' (nude with bent elbow)
mounted, signed by the photographer in ink on the mount, matted, 1952, printed later (Shadow of Light, pl. 121; Brandt, cover and pl. 242; Behind the Camera, p. 99)
Condition
This print, on paper with a surface sheen, is in generally very good condition. Three areas of what appears to be original retouching have taken on slightly different colorations: the first is a ΒΌ-inch black area near the upper right corner that is matte when compared to the print's surface; the second is a faint, pale rust-colored, pencil-point-sized deposit in the sitter's arm in the lower central portion of the print; the third is an area in the sitter's wrist that is slightly warm in tone.
In raking light, the following are visible: several deposits of original retouching; 2 small mounting bumps at the center right; and a one-inch scratch below the sitter's wrist that very slightly breaks the emusion in the lower portion of the scratch. These issues are not obtrusive at a normal viewing distance.
