Sotheby's has not examined this print out of the frame. It appears to be in generally excellent condition. There is a tiny sharp handling crease in the upper right quadrant of the print that does not appear to break the emulsion.

Catalogue Note

The quotation inscribed from Karen Blixen's book, Out of Africa, reads as follows:

'I had seen the royal lion before sunrise, below a warming moon, crossing the grey plain on his way home from the kill, drawing a dark wake in the silvery grass, his face still red up to the ears, or during the midday siesta when he reposed in the midst of his family.'

The Peter Beard Studio has confirmed the authenticity of this lot.
