Condition

Sotheby's has not removed this very large print from its frame, but it appears to be in generally excellent condition. As is typical of these prints, because of its size and because this print is affixed to its mount at intervals, the paper is slightly wavy.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

The photographer has inscribed the following verses from The Book of Job on the image, the first about the Leviathan, which has been variously described as a crocodile, sea monster, or large snake:

'Who can open the doors of his face?  His teeth are terrible round about.  His scales are his pride. One is so near another that no air can come between . . . By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of memory [the morning]' (Job 41:14-18).

and

'Whose house I have made the wild-deer-ness, and the barron [sic] land his dwellings' (Job 39:6).
