L'artiste visite l'Egypte en 1907 - 1908. Une étude préparatoire pour notre tableau, peinte en 1907, a été exposée à l'exposition Charles Hoffbauer, drawings, tempera and oil paintings, Gropper Art Gallery, Somerville (Mass.) 1977, n°17b. A partir de 1910, Hoffbauer se fixe aux Etats-Unis.
