Condition

Original canvas. Good overall condition. Two patches in the reverse; restoration in the sky (near the boy's head), a very minor restoration scattered over the surface.

Catalogue Note

D'origine américaine, Shonborn arrive à Paris vers 1870 et étudie dans l'atelier de Léon Bonnat. Il se fixe en Algérie en 1883. Il parcourt la Kabylie, peint les chevaux, la nature, et la vie pastorale. Il est à l'époque très apprécié des amateurs algérois pour la qualité de son dessin et la poésie de son style (cf Marion Vidal-Bué, L' Algérie et ses peintres, Paris Mediterrannée 2002, page 310).
