Catalogue Note
Gadan découvre l'Algérie au début des années 1880. Il s'installe à Bône et peint des paysages de la région. Privilégiant les sujets champêtres, il est parfois surnommé le "Peintre des herbes". Il représente principalement la vie pastorale, la nature, dans une atmosphère idyllique. Dans ses toiles, toujours très structurées, le souci de la vérité et la luminosité sereine expriment avec charme la poésie des lieux. Gadan se tient à l'écart des milieux artistiques mais, lorsqu'il expose, ses tableaux sont acquis par des amateurs passionnés.
