Guiaud exposa régulièrement au Salon entre 1868 et 1876 des aquarelles, notamment des vues de Venise et de Florence qui laissent supposer qu'il voyagea ou vécut en Italie.
Notre tableau est une copie d'après un grand tableau de Vincenzo Marinelli daté 1862 La danse de l'abeille dans le Harem, conservé au Museo di Capodimonte à Naples, reproduit dans l'ouvrage de Caroline Juler, Les Orientalistes de l'école italienne, ACR édition 1992, page 171
