Catalogue Note

This arresting bust of a woman shares similarities with the work of the Neoclassical Irish portrait sculptors John Hogan (1800-1858) and Christopher Moore (1790-1863).  John Hogan's Portrait of a Young Woman dating to the 1830s in the National Gallery of Ireland represents a woman with a similar, intricate and beautifully carved coiffure.
