Condition
This bust has cracked and been repaired on several ocassions, starting with firing cracks that were caused by the heating of the clay. Cracks are visible particularly at the bare chest, face and back of the bust, and some have been filled. Larger fillings/ additions are visible at the back. There are several small chips to the surface particularly to the right shoulder and at the drapery at the truncation of the same side. There are also chips to the lace chemin, notable at the underside. There is some minor dirt and wear consistent with age.

Catalogue Note
This bust of a man shown wearing a fullbottomed wig and a delicate lace trimmed shirt was attributed to Lemoyne by Francois Souchal in 1981 when it was offered for sale on 12 December 1981 at Sotheby's London. Lemoyne worked on a series of six busts of the most important artists of his day, which included three architects, two painters and Coysevox, his teacher.
