Catalogue Note
Orazio Marinali and his workshop produced many grossly exaggerated male and female marble busts to adorn palaces, gardens and parks in Venice and its environs. This bust exhibits all the energy and dynamism of his signature work.
Interestingly, this playful representation by Marinali of a grotesque head surmounted a pedestal outside the Sotheby's Bond Street boardroom keeping a watchful eye over generations of clients, specialists and honoured guests.
