Catalogue Note
This small figure of Apollo is highly characteristic of the work of Francesco Fanelli. The description of the face and body as well as the unchased surface, are all typical features of Fanelli's style and facture. The small scale is comparable to his series of bronze cupids riding on the backs of horse's and dolphins. A small-scale figure of Orpheus, attributed to Fanelli, in similar pose with his weight on his right hip and left knee forward, was sold in these rooms on 11 December 1980.
