Catalogue Note

The drapery style of this cardinal virtue is strongly influenced by Pietro da Cortona (1596-1669). His pupil Ciro Ferri (1634-1689), who was active and highly successful both as a painter and as a sculptor, may be a candidate for the authorship of this bronze. It bears several similarities to a bronze figure representing Faith, with a lamb and a burning flame as attributes (Hamburg, Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, 1952.122). The latter is attributed to to Ferri in the museum.
