Condition
Both paintings are relined. they are clean and presentable as is.
Landscape at Sunset:
there is excellent retention of the paint surface with good preservation of impasto and lovely coloration. ultraviolet light reveals some very small inpaints to craquelure in some areas of sky and just one or two very small retouches in landscape.
Landscape with Watermill:
there is generally very good preservation of the paint surface. a slight degree of thinness can be seen in some of the browns such as in the house and some of foliage, but overall painting reads very well. ultraviolet light reveals small dots of repaint in an area at right side of sky, some on rocks as lower center and some to house. a few others here and there in landscape.
There is no need for further work on these paintings and they can be hung in their present state.
In ornately carved and gilt wood frames with some nicks and losses to gilding.
