Canvas relined. Under an old varnish. As is visible in the catalogue illustration, there are several tiny losses scattered here and there. There was a small amount of flaking in some areas of the background and the hair of the sitter. This is now stable, but should probably be addressed. The darks of the background have sunken. A few discolored retouches are visible in the chin and at left of the sitter's neck. Despite this, the painting presents a charming image with nice retention of paint surface. Ultraviolet reveals quite a few retouches to the background and a few other scattered retouches here and there. In a carved and giltwood frame with losses to carving and gilding.
