The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This panel has two battens supporting it on the reverse, one at the top and one at the bottom. The paint layer is stable and the panel is flat. It seems to have been originally made from two or possibly three sections of wood, but structurally the picture is healthy. The paint layer has been cleaned and varnished. Retouches have been added to the male saint on the left side, particularly in his forehead and in his right shoulder. In the Madonna, very few restorations have been applied. In the figure of Christ there are a few losses on his arm and a few restorations in his face and thigh. In St. John there is only one restoration visible under ultraviolet light situated in his back on the extreme left edge. A few dots in the figure of the woman in the upper left have also been applied. Recent losses have occurred above the figure in the upper left and the restorations are reasonable yet could be improved. This picture could benefit from a reexamination of the restoration.
