The painting is slightly warmer in tones than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined and is offered in a wood guilt XVIII Century-style frame with some chips and only a major loss in the lower right corner. To the naked eye neither major damages nor restoration can be seen and the painting appears in good condition. Inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the good state of the picture and reveals only some minor restoration (one to the left of the Christ's head, one above the temple of the man to the right hand side, one on the Christ's red robe) and some pictorial retouchings on the background and on the chest of the man to the left hand side.
