Condition
The catalogue illustration is quite representative of the painting, which is slightly less rose in tones.
The 1 cm. thick panel is flat and stable, is supported by a vertical batten on the reverse and bears two sealing waxes.
The painting is offered in a Flemish wood ebonised frame with a gilt and carved inner border.
To the naked eye the painting appears in very good condition, with only some minor scattered scrapes and some thin linear retouchings in the background, all visible from the catalogue illustration as well.
Inspection under ultra-violet light confirms the afore-mentioned restoration and reveals some slight strengthenings on his beard, on his right eyebrow and on his right eye, together with some minor restoration on his hat and on his forehead.
