signed and dated lower left: William Ward Gill / 1843

Condition
The painting is warmer in tone and yellowier than the catalogue illustration suggests. It is relined recently and is flat and stable. It is covered in a discoloured varnish and a fine layer of dirt. The paint surface is in good condition, although slightly flattened due to the relining. There are minor area's of retouching scattered throughout. The foreground id slightly worn. Inspection under ultra-violet light is impeded due to the varnish.
Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame, in good condition with minor losses.
