- A female allegorical figure, said to be Artemisia

Condition
The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is secure and the painting appears to have been quite recently cleaned. Inpection under UV reveals scattered retouchings and a small restored horizontal tear of aprox 5 cm to the manuscript. In a carved gilt wood frame with some knocks.

Catalogue Note
The figure is most likely a sibyl although she has traditionally been identified as Artemisia. After her husband's death Artemisia is said to have mixed his ashes with water and drunk them: the identification here was based upon the woman holding an urn, presumably containing her husband's ashes.
