Description

  • portrait of a lady, aged 50, bust-length, wearing ablack dress with white lace cuffs, and a black and white headdress
  • inscribed with the age of the sitter upper right: AE (in ligature) . 50
    and dated upper left: 1563

Condition

The panel has a vertical split aprox 8 cm from right edge which is secured by dovetails. The paint surface, although abraded in areas, is now secured by a dirty varnish. The varnish prevents thorough inspection under UV light, however, some scattered retuochings are apparent to the naked eye, notably to the hands and face. Offered in a painted nortern wooden frame in reasonable condition with some paint losses.
