Description

  • A soldier and a woman peering through the bars of a window
  • oil on panel, a fragment

Condition

The panel is flat, stable and uncradled. It is bevelled on the right edge but the other edges appear to have been cut down from a larger original. The paint surface is now generally secure with some retouchings visible along the lines of the cracquelure and in the lower right corner and there is a restored and repainted area of paint loss above the soldier's left eye. Thorough inspection under UV light is impeded by the dirty varnish but some scattered more recent retouchings do fluoresce. Offered in a later painted wooden frame.
