  • a pair, both oil on canvas, unlined, in early nineteenth-century (possibly original) carved and gilt wood frames

Condition

Both canvases are unlined. Both paint surfaces are under a thick, dirty and somewhat yellowed varnish, rendering inspection under UV light impossible. The former has a patched and restored L-shaped tear of approx 7 by 7 cm. upper left and a small patched hole upper right. The latter has four small unrestored holes and a repaired 4 cm damage in the centre, also patched on the reverse. Otherwise the paint surface appears to be well preserved. Offered in 19th Century carved gilt wood frames in fair condition.
