Description

  • Portrait of a lady, said to be Francesca Gornia, wife of Francesco del Veglia, half-length, wearing a white and red embroidered dress with white lace cuffs and collar and a red ribbon in her hair, holding an ink pen and a sketch book
  • inscribed on the reverse: Ritratto di Francesca Gornia consorte del Dottre Francesco del Veglia
  • oil on canvas, in a carved and gilt wood frame

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is generally secure and under a somewhat dirty varnish. There are some very small scattered paint losses and scattered retouchings are visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light reveals further scattered retouchings and strengthenings. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
