Estimate
3,000 - 5,000 GBP
bidding is closed

Description

  • Hieronymus Janssens, called Den Danser
  • An interior scene with elegant figures drinking and listening to music
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

With E.P. and W.H. O'Reilly Auctioneers, Dublin (according to a label on the reverse).

Condition

The canvas has been relined with a glue relining. Overall the paint layer has become somewhat thinned. However the paint surface is generally secure with fine cracquelure throughout and some minor paint losses, some of which have been filled in. Scattered retouchings are visible throughout under white light, particularly to the faces and the drapery. The thick varnish prevents inspection under UV light. However, the original painting in general is on the whole preserved.
