"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas has reinforced tacking edges and the paint surface is stable. Under ultraviolet light minor restorations are detectable across the surface denoting paint loss and to reduce shrinkage cracking. Areas of thinness to the paint layer have been augmented, e.g. the trunk and branches of the tree, left, and the sky, upper left, where the pale ground has become too dominant. Generally in a well preserved original condition. The varnish has slightly discoloured and its removal would enhance the tonality. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame in good condition."
