"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas is lined and the paint surface is raised and unstable, particularly along the central horizontal raised stretcher mark. There are obvious areas of paint loss and discoloured restoration, denoting more paint loss, and a scattering of smaller losses across the surface. Aside from the loss can be seen areas of well preserved paint in near original condition. The varnish is discoloured and degraded and its removal would improve the overall tonality."
