Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The original canvas is lined and the paint is stable and slightly raised. There is restored paint loss to the bottom, top and left hand edges. Under ultraviolet light a scattering of minor restorations can be detected. Overall, in a good preserved condition with details and texture uncompromised. The varnish is discoloured and it would be worthwhile removing it to improve the tonality.
Offered in a plain wood frame with a gold sight edge in good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."

Catalogue Note
Maria Theresia Van Thielen was the daughter of the accomplished still life painter Jan Philips van Thielen, of whose style the present lot is deeply reminiscent (see, for example, the painting offered New York, Christie's, 23 January 2004, lot 37). All three of Jan Philips van Thielen's daughters became still life painters and Maria Theresia appears to have been the most active and well known, becoming a master in the Antwerp guild of St. Luke in 1665.
