Description

  • David de Coninck
  • A hunting still life with a hound seated beside dead game, an extensive landscape beyond
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Chrisitie's, 9 May 2001, lot 113.

Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The original canvas has been lined in order to consolidate a significant damage in the sky. There are period additions to the left and right edges. The paint layer is raised and unstable and further restored losses can be seen to the foliage upper left, to the duck, the gun butt and the hare's leg. Areas in good condition include the dog, the collection of dead birds and much of the foreground where the paint texture is in a good original state. The varnish has discoloured and degraded and its removal would improve the tonality. Offered in a dark blue and gilt frame in good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
