Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is in a good stable condition but has a central horizontal join that has been crudely consolidated and restored. The paint layer is well preserved and flat but there are areas that have been extensively augmented including the pale arches and the pillars, the marbled insets and the window, on the right hand side. The vaulted ceiling has been strengthened, in places, as has the central panel to the sarcophagus. The shadowed areas are in a good condition. Removing the discoloured varnish will improve the tonality. Offered in a gilt frame with some minor damages."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
