Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is in good condition and the paint layer is in a flat stable condition with pronounced vertical wood grain. There are some minor splits detectable along the bottom edge and minor restored paint losses to the sky, visible under ultraviolet light, to the top edge and the top left corner. Remains of an older discoloured varnish can be seen in the foliage in the foreground. Some of the more raised grain ridges have abraded paint. The overall condition of the painting can be considered to be good. The varnish is slightly discoloured and removing would enhance the tonality. Offered in an ornate gilt wood frame with some minor losses."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues.
