Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The original canvas is lined, the paint surface is unstable and there are bulges and deformations evident. The paint is also cupped and abraded. The pale ground is prominent through a filigree of cracks, there has been strengthening to reduce this, e.g. the darker foliage behind the figures. There are additional shrinkage cracks to the kneeling figure and Moses. Paint losses to the flesh tones and the pale areas of the sky can be detected. The varnish has discoloured and its removal would enhance the tonality. Much of the painting is in a good condition.
Offered in a plain moulded gilt wood frame with some chips."
