Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The painting is lined and the paint layer is stable but slightly raised in some areas. There are visible creases within the canvas and earlier restored paint losses to the left and right edges. Under Ultra-violet light a scattering of restored pin-prick losses of paint can be seen across the surface particularly to thinnesses in the background, upper right and centre, and to the flesh tones of the figure. The impastoed paint to the shells and the textured paint in the highlights of the sitter's hair are well preserved. Offered in a gilt wood frame with damages and repairs."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
