Anonymous sale, New York, Sotheby's, 11 January 1990, lot 74;
Acquired by the present owner in February 2007.

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The painting is lined and the surface is secure and flat. Overall, the painting is in a good, well preserved condition. Under ultra-violet light a scattering of minor restorations are detectable covering previous pin prick paint losses and abrasion to delicate scumbles e.g. the angel's flesh and the thinner areas of it's wing (these may be considered excessive) . The impasto is well preserved and the paint layer saturates well revealing the colours to be strong. Offered in a gilt wood frame in good condition."
