Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
1.The View of Delft has a reinforced central horizontal join. The paint surface is slightly raised along this with some restoration visible. There are some minor restorations visible elsewhere along with some unnecessary discoloured retouchings to the sky. Shrinkage of the paint layer has lead to a filigree of pale cracks in the foliage. In good overall condition.
2. The View of Rotterdam has a diagonally repaired central join, again slightly raised with restoration along it, and a parallel split. There is discoloured restoration visible to the sky mid left, mostly unnecessary, and a filigree of pale cracks to the foliage. In a similar well preserved and original condition.
Both paintings have a discoloured varnish and the tonality to both would improve with its removal.
Offered in modern gilt wood frames with small damages."
