"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The copper is in a good condition but the paint layer is raised and unstable with previous restored losses to the sky, visible under ultra-violet light. The paint in the foreground is in very good untouched condition but broken up slightly by a fine filigree of pale cracks. However, the delicate details are intact and the paint texture is well preserved. Minor tonal improvement would be gained with the removal of the varnish. Offered in an ebonised frame with a gilt sight edge, in good condition."
