Description

  • Francesco Tironi
  • Venice, a view of the Molo from the bacino di San Marco with the Doge's Palace and the piazzetta
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale ("Property from a Private Collection"), London, Sotheby's, 6 December 2005, lot 714.

Condition

"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas is lined and the paint layer is stable. There are some restorations to the upper left corner in the sky and one or two further restorations across the sky. The ground colour and canvas texture is noticeable through the thinned paint layer here. The presence of the ground colour is also noticeable through the thin paint layer in the foreground. The impastoed paint is in good condition here, and there is only some slight abrasion to the darker passages. Many of the finer details are well preserved. Removal of the discoloured varnish would improve the tonality. Offered in a carved and gilt oak wood frame, in good condition."
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
