"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas has been lined and the paint layer is stable but raised in some areas. There is an obvious coarseness to the canvas, reflected in the paint layer where abrasion has occurred. There are restored losses to the edges and elsewhere and some of this is clumsy and excessive. There are some un-restored minor paint losses to the grapes. The highlights and the thicker passages of paint are well preserved and the overall tonality would improve were the discoloured and degraded varnish removed. Offered in a plain moulded frame, with some losses."
