Description
- Jacob van Hulsdonck
- Still life with peaches, apricots, plums, greengages and grapes in a wicker basket on a wooden tabletop
- oil on panel
Provenance
Acquired by the father of the present owner in the 1970s.
Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The oak panel is cradled with a central horizontal restored split visible. Under Ultra-violet light only a small cluster of restorations can be detected. However, the wooden table top has been entirely repainted and there are suspicions about the degree of over paint to the background. Thinnesses to the shadows within the wicker and to the plums and peaches have been strengthened. Much of the paint to the leaves and the still life is in a good condition. Removal of the varnish would improve the tonality.
Offered in a modern ebonised frame with a gilt sight edge, in good condition."
