Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The copper panel is deformed across its plane and there is some instability to the paint layer with previous minor losses throughout; there are tack holes to each corner. The sky has been excessively over painted, reducing the natural sketchy quality here. There are fewer losses to the figures and the foreground and some of the more vulnerable glazes have been clumsily augmented. The unnecessary restoration belies the condition of the paint beneath which, in many cases, is good. The varnish is discoloured and its removal would improve the tonality.
Offered in a burr wood and gilt frame, in good condition."
