"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The oak panel is in good condition with a stable central join. The paint surface is secure but there is slightly raised paint along the horizontal wood grain and some small losses are detectable. The sky has been entirely overpainted! One presumes because of the wood grain effect, this is a little excessive. Further clumsy restorations can be detected in the foreground to reduce the pale wood grain here. The majority of the painting is in good untouched condition with passages of paint that are well preserved. Tonally, improvement would be achieved were the varnish removed. Offered in a modern carved gilt wood frame, with some losses."
