Condition
"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
The oak panel, with a roughly adzed back, has moving vertical splits 2cm form the top and the bottom. The paint surface is raised and unstable and there are restored damages to the edges , particularly along the bottom edge. There has been abrasion to some of the figures allowing the ground colour to be exposed; this has warranted some augmentation e.g. the robes of the two kneeling figures. Much of the fine detail of the other figures is intact along with areas of the background, a good untouched condition has been preserved. Removing the discoloured varnish would improve the overall tonality.
Offered in a plain moulded part gilt and painted frame, some worm damage."
