Description
- Sir Peter Paul Rubens
- Head of an old man
- oil on canvas
Condition
The actual painting is deeper in tone and shows more detail than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has a stable relining. No damages are apparent. The paint layer is a little abraded in the background, but otherwise, is well-preserved. The paint surface is under a lucid and shiny layer of varnish. Some retouchings can be observed in the background upper left, along the right edge, in the lower centre, and in his hair line upper right. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light, furthermore, reveals a few additional small retouchings in the lips and left eye, and reveals additional retouchings to the background.
Offered in a black ebonised wood frame with a carved scroll and leaf pattern, in good condition. (MW)
