Description
- Portrait of a gentleman, standing half-length, wearing a black costume with a white chemise, and a white flat collar
- oil on canvas
Condition
The actual painting is less red and warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a slightly firm relining. No damages seem to be apparent. There is some thinness, mainly in the darker areas such as the coat and hair. Small retouchings can be observed in the figure's sleeve, in the background upper left and centre right, and in the corner upper right. The paint surface is covered with a clear and shiny layer of varnish.
Inspection under Ultra-Violet light confirms the abovementioned retouchings and reveals additional scattered retouchings in the figure's coat, hair and hand.
Offered in a red wood frame with a gilt fillet, in good condition. (MW)
