  • signed lower right: Abraham Hondius
  • oil on panel

Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 26 June 1968, lot 26.

Condition

The actual painting is less red and softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is flat and stable, and bevelled on all sides. No damages are apparent, and the paint layer is secure and well-preserved. A few small retouchings can be observed in the sky upper right, but further inspection under UV-light is impeded by the dirty varnish layer. In general, the painting is in good overall condition. The paint surface is under a slightly dirty and uneven layer of varnish. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame, in fair condition. (MW)
