Description
- Interior of a Gothic church with elegant figures and clerics
oil on canvas
Provenance
Bought by the great-grandparents of the present owner.
Condition
The actual painting is less bright than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas is relined. Abrasion of the paint surface is visible throughout and some of the figures have become transparent. Otherwise the paint surface is in stable condition, no damages are visible to the front. Retouchings and strengthening of the tiles are visible to the naked eye. The varnish is dirty and discoloured.
Inspection under UV-light is largely impeded by the varnish layer, however some retouchings in the central figures and tiles in the foreground do appear. The varnish layer is unevenly cleaned.
