Description
- Felice Fortunato Biggi, called 'Felice dei Fiori'
- A still life of roses, carnations, tulips, peonies, morning glory and other flowers in a sculpted vase on a marble pedestal
- bears monogram and date lower right: JB fec. Ao 1694
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale, Berlin, Spik, 20/21 October 1971, lot 175 (as by Jan Baptiste Bosschaert).
Condition
The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting.
The canvas has an old relining. Stretcher marks are slightly visible to the front. There's a small repaired damage in the upper centre. There's some abrasion in the darker areas, in the background and in the foliage, but the flowers have been nicely preserved. Small scattered retouchings are visible in the foliage and in the vase. The paint surface is under an old and dirty layer of varnish. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light is largely impeded by the dirty varnish layer, but does confirm the aforementioned retouchings and reveals a few additional tiny ones in the flowers.
Offered in a decorative carved and gilt wood frame, in good condition. (MW)
