Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 26 June 1968, lot 7.
Condition
The actual painting is less red and softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The single panel is flat and stable and bevelled on all sides. Two thin retouched horizontal surface cracks are visible in the lower left corner. Small retouchings can be observed in the sky, in the background centre left, and in the figure most left in the foreground. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light, furthermore, reveals additional strengthening in all figures, and in the fish in the foreground.
The paint surface is under a very dirty layer of varnish.
Offered in a plain parcel gilt wood frame, with a few paint losses. (MW)
