Description

  • Cornelis Beelt
  • Elegant figures strolling on the beach at Egmond aan Zee, sailing vessels moored on shore, and fisher folk selling their catch in the foreground
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

With Sabin Gallery, London, June 1972, where bought by the present owner.

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting. The canvas has an uneven old relining (wax). A few surface scratches are visible in the upper right corner and there's a paint loss in the upper centre. Overall, the painting is in reasonable condition: the varnish is very dirty, and the paint surface beneath is quite extensively restored. This is confirmed by inspection under Ultra-Violet light. Offered in a later Louis XIV style plaster gilt wood frame, with a few losses. (MW)
