Condition

The actual painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The single panel is lightly bevelled on the upper side, and bevelled on all other sides. The panel has a repaired horizontal crack running from left to right edge, just below the upper edge. There's a minor tendency towards flaking, especially along the crack. The paint surface is under a dirty and glossy layer of varnish. The paint is quite thin in the background, but otherwise, seems to be in fair condition. Small retouchings can be observed along the edges, in the elderly's clothes, and in the dog. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light , furthermore, reveals additional tiny scattered retouchings throughout. Offered in a decorative gilt plaster and wood frame, with a few losses. (MW)
