The actual painting is a lot darker and less yellow in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of 2 planks, joined horizontally, and is bevelled on all sides. The join has been reinforced with a strip of linen. No damages seem to be apparent. The paint layer has grown a bit thin in places, mainly in the darker hues, e.g. in the area upper left, in the group of figures centre left, and in the walking figures on the right. The highlights and lighter tones have been very nicely preserved. Tiny spots of retouching and strengthening can be observed in the dog and standing figures on the right, and along the join. The paint surface is under a dull and discoloured layer of varnish. Inspection under Ultra-Violet light confirms the aforementioned strengthening and retouchings, and reveals additional tiny scattered retouchings in the sky upper left, in the foliage on the right, and in the figures in the foreground. Offered in a plain black wood frame, in good condition. (MW)
